Chapter 495: Festival!
The festival was in full swing when Dante and Velryna arrived, the vibrant music echoing around them. Colors danced in the air, with colorful cloth banners swaying in the trees and lanterns floating in the sky, lighting up the night. The smell of fresh food invaded the air, mixed with the sound of laughter and the crackling of bonfires. Velryna watched everything with curious eyes, a glint of surprise in her gaze. She had never experienced anything like this before.
Dante, beside her, was more relaxed than she had seen him in a long time. The smile on his lips was contagious, and the way he walked beside her, unburdened by his responsibilities, made Velryna feel a small sense of relief, as if the weight of her own life could be left behind for a moment. Dante was like an anchor in a turbulent sea, and being with him calmed something inside Velryna.
"Do you like it?" Dante asked, his eyes shining. He held out his hand, and Velryna looked at it for a moment, hesitating. She had never allowed herself to be so... spontaneous. But something about the way Dante invited her made her accept without further question.
"I didn't know something like this existed... so... joyful." Velryna replied, a slight smile on her lips.
"Welcome to the world of mortals," he joked, gently pulling her closer. "You'll find that even the greatest warriors need moments like this. Now, come on, let's explore!"
The two of them walked further towards the center of the festival, where a group of dancers were performing. They twirled gracefully, their clothes floating in the wind, and the crowd around them cheered and clapped enthusiastically. Dante took a quick glance at Velryna and, noticing the fascination on her face, offered a proposal.
"Would you like to try?" he asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Me? Dance?" Velryna raised an eyebrow, surprised by the suggestion.
"Why not? Just give yourself over to the rhythm, without worrying about anything else. Let's go." Dante smiled and, before she could reply, was already pulling her onto the dance floor.
"I can't dance." Velryna protested, but her voice sounded more like an excuse than real resistance.
Dante laughed and guided her to the center of the circle, where the music was pulsating more strongly. He took a few steps to the beat and, without further explanation, held out his hand to her. "I'll teach you."
Velryna, still a little bewildered, took his hand. Dante's touch was firm, but gentle, and she couldn't help noticing how comfortable he seemed, as if he had been made to experience moments like this. The music was fast and upbeat, and she hesitated at first, feeling a little out of sync, but soon realized that it didn't have to be perfect. The energy around them was contagious. Dante moved lightly, as if he were dancing with the wind, and soon she was letting herself go, her feet moving almost instinctively.
His laugh, low and captivating, echoed around her as she, clumsy at first, began to pick up the rhythm. "See, it's not that difficult," he said, turning and pulling her along.
Velryna smiled, feeling a little lighter than she had recently. She followed the movement, and soon her feet were moving more confidently. The surrounding crowd clapped and smiled, applauding their every dance step.
After a while, they stopped, gasping and laughing. "That was... amazing!" Velryna said, her smile radiant, a gleam of happiness in her eyes.
"I knew you had rhythm, Velryna." Dante smiled back, and the two of them stepped away to get some air.
"I had no idea I could have fun like this," Velryna said, looking up at the sky illuminated by the lanterns. "I never imagined it would be so... liberating."
Dante looked at her, his smile softening. "Sometimes it's good to forget the weight of the world and allow yourself to be free. We're so used to responsibility that we forget how precious lightness can be."
Before Velryna could reply, Dante led her to a games stand. "How about a competition?" he suggested, pointing to a tent where people were trying to hit targets with bows and arrows.
Velryna gave him a challenging look. "Do you think you'll win?"
"I know I will." Dante smiled confidently.
She laughed, shaking her head. "We'll see."
They positioned themselves on the firing line. Dante was the first to fire, and his arrow hit the target accurately, scoring a high point. "Your turn." He said, without hiding his victorious smile.
Velryna picked up the bow, watching the target. The wind caressed her face, and she took a deep breath, letting her thoughts calm down. With a precise movement, she fired the arrow. The crowd fell silent for a moment as the arrow flew through the air, and then, with a soft sound, it hit the center of the target.
"Impressive!" Dante exclaimed, his eyes shining with surprise and pride. "You surprised me, Velryna!"
She looked at him with a reassuring smile. "I told you I'd win."
The two laughed together, and Dante pulled her to another stand, where they could sample the festival food. They sat at a table and shared a plate of sweets and a cold drink, savoring the quiet evening.
"I never thought I'd need something like this," Velryna said, the softness in her voice revealing how much the evening had impacted her heart. "But I'm glad you're here."
"And so am I," Dante replied, his eyes fixed on her with a warm intensity. "It's nice to see you smile like that, without the shadows you carry."
She didn't say anything, but the look she exchanged with him said more than a thousand words. At that moment, in the midst of the party and the joy, Velryna felt that she had indeed found a piece of peace.
While they were enjoying themselves...
Two angelic women appeared in the human world...
Uriel had never imagined that he would be in a place like this. She, the daughter of the great Strelitzia, destined to carry the weight of responsibility and leadership, never thought that one day she would be at a human festival, surrounded by sparkling lights and sounds that seemed so far removed from the seriousness of her existence. The colors were intense, the smell of food invaded her in an unusual way, and the people around her were so... uncomplicated. It was an absolute contrast to the life she knew.
Next to her, Raphael, her sister, seemed enchanted by every little detail. The two sisters walked through the festival, and Uriel couldn't hide the discomfort on her face. With every step, she felt more out of place, as if she were in a strange dream where everything seemed out of place.
"I can't believe I'm doing this..." Uriel muttered, still watching the humans dancing and enjoying themselves without a care in the world. "I have responsibilities, Raphael. I can't just... play."
Raphael smiled, that light, tranquil expression that always characterized her. She turned to her sister with an indulgent look, knowing what Uriel was thinking. "I understand, Uriel. But you won't find life any more bearable if you never allow yourself a bit of fun. Sometimes it's necessary to take a break, even if it's just for a moment."
"I don't know, Raphael. It all seems... pointless." Uriel replied, without looking at his sister, his words laden with skepticism.
Raphael laughed softly. "Useless? Do you really think an evening of fun and distraction is pointless? Look around. What you see are people connecting, celebrating. It's not just about fun. It's about allowing yourself to feel something beyond the weight of everything we carry. You're so used to responsibilities that you've forgotten what it's like to feel the lightness of life."
Uriel took a quick look around, but quickly looked away. Children were laughing as they ran around the square, the food stalls exuded the most delicious aromas, and the sound of music made people dance to the beat of the drum. However, despite the vibrant and cheerful appearance, she felt a kind of emptiness inside. She didn't know how to fit into that reality, where everyone was laughing and enjoying simple moments, without worrying about the grander aspects of life, as she always did.
Raphael noticed Uriel's discomfort and stopped beside her. She touched her sister's arm, trying to convey some of her calm. "Uriel, I know you feel out of place. I also know how much you carry on your shoulders. But you're here, at least for one night. Let yourself be. Just for today. Don't worry about tomorrow."
Uriel looked at his sister with somewhat lost eyes. She really wanted to, but something inside her prevented her from leaving her worries behind. "What if I fail? What if something goes wrong? I... I'm not like you, Raphael. I don't know how to leave everything behind."
Raphael smiled tenderly. "You'll never know what it's like until you try. And who says that leaving everything behind is a failure? You'll see. Come on, I'll take you to something that will change your perspective."
Uriel sighed, still resisting, but followed Raphael when she pulled her by the hand. They walked to one of the game stalls. The air was warm and festive, and the glow of colored lanterns illuminated the scene. Raphael looked like a fish in water, amused and excited, while Uriel still felt as if she were a stranger in that environment.
Arriving at the target shooting stand, Raphael turned to Uriel with a mischievous smile. "Have you ever tried to hit a target with a bow and arrow? It's fun. And, honestly, you have good control."
Uriel looked at the archers, who were perched on high stools, shooting their arrows with precision. Her fingers were already beginning to feel tense, and the sight of the bow and arrow made her think of the many times she had had to use these weapons in battle. It wasn't just a game to her, and the idea of turning something so serious into fun made her uncomfortable.
"I'm good with weapons, but this doesn't seem... serious enough for my taste," Uriel said, frowning.
Raphael smiled even more. "You're thinking too much. Just try it. If you get it wrong, you get it wrong. If you get it right, good. Go on, show everyone that Strelitzia's daughter can be fun too!"
The sister's pressure was more than enough to make Uriel pick up the bow. She sat down on a bench, feeling the weight of responsibility still on her shoulders, but at the same time, there was something comforting in Raphael's words. She had forgotten how good it felt to try something without the need to be perfect.
She pulled the bowstring, aligning the arrow with the target in front of her. The world around her seemed to disappear for a moment and, for a moment, Uriel allowed himself to focus solely on the task in front of him, without worrying about what was to come.
The arrow flew and hit the center of the target with impressive precision. The surrounding crowd cheered and called her forward.
Raphael laughed, his eyes shining with pride. "I knew it! Now, do you realize how good it feels to just allow yourself to live, even for a moment?"
Uriel was quiet for a moment, observing the lively crowd around her. She felt something inside her soften. It was as if a part of her that had been dormant, repressed for so long, had awakened. "Maybe... maybe you're right, Raphael. This isn't so bad."
Raphael hugged her, as lightly as only she could. "See, I knew you'd like it. You just had to give yourself a chance. Let's do this more often. Just for today, no responsibilities, no expectations. Let's live in the moment."
Uriel looked at his sister with a shy smile. "Maybe I need this more than I thought."
What do you think?
